Auxiliary Opportunities

Book Cart
Several volunteers distribute magazines at least once a week to the 18 waiting rooms and reception areas throughout the Hospital. Keeping up with the demand for magazines each week requires contributions from individuals in the community. Donations of magazines may be left at the Reception Desk. This service helps family and friends pass their time.

Gift Shop
The Auxiliary Gift Shop offers a selection of merchandise for hospital patients of all ages, as well as visitors and employees. We have a large display of name-brand stuffed animals, decorative giftware, infant gifts, children's toys, cameras, batteries, toiletries, drugstore items, costume jewelry, balloons, magazines, greeting cards, and a wide selection of candies and snack items. Six volunteers assist our two buyers with keeping the display areas clean and attractive. Volunteers also serve as cashiers.

Snack Bar
The Snack Bar is open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Light breakfast, lunch and evening meals are available. Homemade soups and sandwiches are also available daily. Volunteers are needed to give four hours a month to work behind the counter or operate the cash register.

Reception Desk
Our front desk receptionists in the main lobby are a very important group of volunteers. They greet patients' families and visitors to the hospital. Volunteer hours are 8 a.m. to 12 noon, 12 noon to 4 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sewing Group
Our Sewing Group works on a variety of items monthly or weekly depending upon the project. We participate in craft shows as well as donate items to Hospital patients.

Surgical Hostess
Surgical Hostesses give comfort and care to the families and friends of surgical patients. They relay information about the patient to the families during surgical procedures. Volunteer hours are 7:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

REVENUE PRODUCING SERVICES

The Auxiliary conducts many revenue-producing activities in order to provide services, purchase equipment, and fund capital projects for the Hospital. Revenue from the vending machines throughout the hospital goes to the Auxilary and thence to the hospital. Book sales, uniform sales, fund-raising projects, and the snack bar and gift shop all generate revenue which the Auxiliary donates to the hospital to improve patient care.

OTHER AUXILIARY SERVICES

The East Liverpool City Hospital Auxiliary sponsors free in-room television for all patients.

The Auxiliary sponsors the Lifeline Emergency Alert System, which allows elderly and others in fragile health remain in their own homes and live independently. A Lifeline unit is installed in the individual's home, connected to the telephone, and the person wears a medallion around his or her neck. This medallion is a tiny radio transmitter which, when pressed, sends a signal to the telephone, causing it to dial a local dispatching service 24 hours a day to summon help in an emergency situation. Because it is underwritten by the Auxiliary, the cost of this service is a modest $15 per month or $150 a year. Installation is free. To arrange for Lifeline service, call 330-386-2003. The best times to call are mornings, Monday through Thursday.

The Remembrance Fund is a wonderful way to make a memorial donation, celebrate a life event such as an anniversary, or honor a loved one. Upon receipt of your check, an acknowledgment is promptly sent to the family of the deceased or the person being honored, informing them of your kind gesture. You also receive a letter confirming receipt of your donation. Make checks payable to "Auxiliary Remembrance Fund" and send in care of East Liverpool City Hospital, P.O. Box 458, East Liverpool, OH 43920
