Services
At Your Request: through this delivery system, patients order what foods they want, when they want.
Patients, or a family designate, can order meals by dialing an extension directly linked to the hospital's
Nutrition Support Services (NSS) Department. Once the order is received, the meal will arrive in the patient's
room within 45 minutes.
With "At Your Request," a patient can order a meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) when he
or she feels like eating and, if the healthcare provider's orders are non-restrictive,
the patient can order whatever he or she wishes from the menu. A room service attendant
will discuss the options and help place meal orders for patients on modified or restricted
diets. Special consideration also is given to diabetic patients. A new computerized ordering
system tracks those patients who have ordered meals and detects when a patient has skipped a
meal. A member of the diet office staff will contact all patients who did not receive meals
and provide the necessary follow-up.
Nutrition Support Services also performs diet consults. With a referral from a physicians
diet consults can be given for diabetics, hyperglycemia, low sodium, low and high cholestrol,
renal, weight loss or gain, and gastric by-pass.
