Internal Medicine

Internal Medicine physicians serve as primary care physicians. Our Internal Medicine physicians treat a variety of illnesses and conditions, conduct health screenings and comprehensive physical exams, provide primary, wellness and preventative healthcare. They are your partner in monitoring and managing long-term illnesses and conditions including diabetes and high cholesterol. If they diagnose a condition requiring specialist follow up, they can coordinate that care with the specialty physician.

EKG

An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart. An EKG translates the heart’s electrical activity into line tracings on paper. The spikes and dips in the line tracings are called waves. The heart is a muscular pump made up of four chambers.

Pulmonary Function Test

Pulmonary Function testing measures the function of lung capacity and lung and chest wall mechanics to determine whether or not the patient has a lung problem. Pulmonary Function Tests are commonly referred to as “PFTs”. When a patient is referred for PFT’s, it means that a battery of tests may be carried-out including: simple screening spirometry, static lung volume measurement, diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide, airways resistance, respiratory muscle strength and arterial blood gases.

Hematology/Oncology

The diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood diseases (hematology) and cancer (oncology) along with research into them. Hematology-oncology includes such diseases as iron deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, the thalassemias, leukemias and lymphomas, as well as cancers of other organs.

Aortic Aneurysm Screening

An aortic aneurysm involves the aorta, the major artery that leaves the heart to supply blood to the body. An aortic aneurysm is a dilation or bulging of the aorta.

Bone Marrow Aspiration

Bone marrow is the soft tissue inside bones that helps form blood cells. It is found in the hollow part of most bones. Bone marrow aspiration is the removal of a small amount of this tissue in liquid form for examination.

Holter Monitors

A Holter monitor is a battery-operated portable device that measures and tape records your heart’s activity (ECG) continuously for 24 to 48 hours or longer depending on the monitor used. The device is the size of a small camera.

Hypertension Management

Hypertension, also referred to as high blood pressure, is a condition in which the arteries have persistently elevated blood pressure. Every time the human heart beats, it pumps blood to the whole body through the arteries.
