Wound Care Center

The Wound Care Center® at East Liverpool Health System provides comprehensive treatment options for patients suffering from acute, chronic and non-healing wounds. When wounds persist, a specialized approach is required for healing.

Located on the first floor of the hospital, the Wound Care Center features dedicated examine and treatment rooms, as well as two hyperbaric oxygen chambers. The staff includes an integrated team of specialists with advanced training in wound care, including a panel of local physicians. Typically, a wound that does not respond to normal medical care within 30 days is considered a problem or chronic wound.

Kerecis Omega3

From Fish Skin to Skin Substitute

kerecis-logoThe Wound Care Center at East Liverpool Health System is utilizing modern technology in a very natural way to help their patients.

Kerecis Omega3 is intact fish skin rich in naturally occurring Omega3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. When grafted onto damaged human tissue such as a burn or a diabetic wound, the material recruits the body’s own cells and is ultimately converted into living tissue.

The fish are caught in the pristine waters of North Atlantic Ocean off the township of Isafjordur, on the northwest coast of Iceland. Each and every batch of raw materials is tracked to ensure product quality. The fish skin is processed using a proprietary method that preserves its structure and lipid composition.

The Team at the Wound Care Center is excited to bring this technology to their community. They are the first hospital in the Tri-State Area doing a treatment of this kind.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy helps the body’s wound healing mechanisms function more efficiently. While enclosed in a hyperbaric chamber, patients breathe pure oxygen. This results in saturating the patient’s blood plasma and allows it to carry 15 to 20 times the normal amount of healing oxygen throughout the body.

Care for Diabetics

Diabetics tend to experience non-healing wounds, also known as diabetic ulcers, on their feet, heal or toes. In order to prevent complications from wounds that have not started healing in 2 weeks or completed healing in 6 weeks, you should consult your physician whether wound care at the Wound Care Center is necessary. The medical professionals at the Wound Care Center can help to prevent serious complications associated with non-healing wounds.

Preventing More Serious Consequences

The Wound Care Center is experienced in helping people recover from wounds and surgical incisions that are not healing properly. They have also helped many immobile patients recover from bed sores.
